Originally founded as the Crump & Everdell Label Factory in the late 19th century, the Walnut Yards property has long been a cornerstone of Montclair's industrial past. After a devastating fire in 1877, the factory was rebuilt and later became the home of the New Jersey Coated Paper Company. Over the years, the site evolved through various uses, from label and paper manufacturing to municipal uses under the Town of Montclair, including a welfare depot and public event space. In the mid-20th century, the buildings housed various small businesses, including a knitting mill and a tire retreading company. In 1996, the space underwent a major renovation, transforming it into a modern commercial campus that honors its industrial heritage while serving Montclair's dynamic community of creatives, entrepreneurs, and small businesses.
